Had the usual phone screens from HR and then started the onsite process. Met with staff who reviewed all past experience and I mapped it to all the bullet points addressed in the job description. Seemed like a great fit. Spent a few hours there meeting with senior staff members. I was invited back a few weeks later to meet with the hiring manager. His "take" on what he wanted for the role did not map to the job description. He did not buy into the "PMO" as an integral part of the team and he actually mentioned he "let go" a person recently who was helping in a PMO capacity. He in fact wanted a "Program Manager", someone to act as a task master in getting projects back on track. When I mentioned I could also serve in that function, he balked and the interview was over. To add insult to injury...he then placed me in an actual work meeting underway where staff members were discussing IT matters. I sat for 45 minutes listening but couldn't believe a company would do this. The job is still posted 5 months later.
