I applied to Jardine Matheson's Jardine Executive Trainee Scheme (JETS) in August 2021. I attended a virtual assessment centre in November 2021 from home via Zoom.
Online Immersive Assessment (Capffinity) - > Job Simulation Assessment (Cappfinity) - > Assessment Centre
1. Online Immersive Assessment: The assessment is untimed and tests you on behavioural questions and inductive reasoning. You will rank order your preferences based on information on given scenarios. Inductive reasoning is basically pattern recognition of shapes. You should take up the initiative to tackle challenges instead of leaving the problems to other people. This assessment will produce a feedback report, make sure you download and read through this report because you will be asked during the assessment centre.
2. Job Simulation Assessment: Questions are untimed except for video questions. You will be asked to rank order your preferences based on given information and data about business scenarios. You will also be asked to perform calculations. There're multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and essay questions. One of the video questions will ask you to present your analytical insights, and the rest will ask you some basic behavioural questions.
3. Assessment Centre: The Group HR will call you to confirm your AC attendance. This is a full-day AC and includes Group HR interview, report writing exercise, group debates, micro exercises (interpreting emails, charts, and data), and role play exercises. You will be tasked to handle crises in public relations, negotiations, and operations. The managers will give you a lot of surprises during the role play exercises.
Make sure you have read the feedback report from the Immersive Online Assessment, done research on corporate websites, and reviewed your resume/CV before joining the centre. Relax and seize every opportunity to show off your skills. Remember not to dominate conversations, isolate yourself without joining conversations, or interrupt others dialogues.
In the report writing exercise, you will be given less than 60 minutes to read through 10+ pages of case study, perform some calculations, and produce a report that answers questions on a given prompt. I failed the AC because I couldn't finish the report. My top tip is that you should be making sure that every question asked is answered before worrying about wording, formatting, and stuff like that. If you're a slow reader or not good at doing maths, this exercise is time pressured.
Finally, Group HRs are very friendly. They may have a smily face throughout the AC, but it doesn't guarantee you an offer.
