      Account Manager Interview

      8 Apr 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Jules and Associates (Los Angeles, CA)

      Interview

Initial phone call interview for an Account Manager position. Right off the bat I felt that the person conducting the interview was inexperienced and came off combative. I aske a simple question to which I was not given a clear response. How much should I expect to make my first year? The interviewer beat around the bush and was not able to give a specific number. This position offers a base salary plus commission. Given that information the interviewer should be able to answer my question. A good sale job will have a specific goal or quota in mind for the sales team. I.E, if you hit all our goals you will make a $40,000 in commission. This interviewer was not able to give me a number. Here's a tip... Sales people are in it for the money, have defined goals for your sales team so a new hire can know what to expect. Mid way through the interview I let the interviewer know that I was no longer interested in continuing the conversation.

To Account Manager Interview review, I appreciate the feedback. Our goal in the interview process is to be as transparent as possible. Upon completion of the phone interview we have you come into the office. If the candidate is a good prospect, we then have them sit with a few sales people to see what the job entails. The candidate has the ability to ask any questions they want during their face time with the account executives. We also have some candidates go to lunch with the sales team to get a better understanding of the job. In regards to compensation, our salary and commission plan is specifically spelled out to all candidates that we identify as prospects. Specific salaries and goals are given to each prospect based on experience. Please understand, the purpose of the phone interview, is to hear your voice. Most of our sales are done over the phone, thus we want to see if you come across in a professional manner. The other goal of the phone interview is to make sure you have a better understanding of the job. We don’t provide specific salaries or overall compensation over the first phone call. Most companies that practice these tactics are “selling” you. We find that there is little benefit in upselling a potential candidate. Finally, we have a high retention rate of senior account executives, this is due to the overall compensation that we provide. In fact, our salaries are among the highest in the industry. If you want to further discuss this, please give me a call at our corporate office. Ask for Michael.
