I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at KPFF (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2015
Interview
Not intimidating at all. The process was more about getting to know me, my background, and what I was looking for in a position. I met with three engineers; a group leader who did the initial interviewing and explained to me what he was looking for when hiring an intern for his group. I was then given a short examination and an engineer from the group came and reviewed the exam with me. I was then able to meet one last engineer on the team, which gave me a good opportunity to have different conversations and tell them more about me.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They focused more on asking me why I was applying for a civil position if I was getting my Master's in structural engineering. I feel like this put me in an immediate disadvantage with them, even thought the minimum requirements for the position were 3 years of bachelors work. There was also a general exam, very straight to the point. Since I am a structural engineer, I was unfamiliar with various topics on the exam such as, grading, drawing cross-sections, site design, etc.
