      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Kearney (Tempe, AZ) in Oct 2011

      Interview

It started with two phone interviews that went well and then an in person interview on campus which consisted of three rounds of interviewing with different representatives from the company. I felt at a bit of a disadvantage since I was a undergraduate competing against mainly Master's Degree students for the position. I feel that I did well, but was not contacted for a follow-up interview. I suspect that I was one of HR's wild cards since I was an undergraduate but had three majors and a broad base of business knowledge.

      Question 1

They definitely throw out some hard "what if" questions. The one that sticks out in my mind involved a 4 way stoplight and measuring how many times a day a red light flashes. There is no right answer; they just want to see the wheels turn and have a look at how you set up and process complex and abstract problems.

      Management Consulting Associate Interview

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Kearney (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2011

      Interview

As an off-campus hire, the interview process was much faster. There were 2 phone pre-screening interviews, basically to evaluate your interest in consulting, and then a "power day" with 1st round interviews in the morning, and 2nd round in the afternoon (if you make it to the 2nd round). The interviews were a typical mix of case/fit. Interviewers were at the level of a manager and above, expect to meet at least 1 partner in the second round. Although ATK typically includes a presentation portion in the interview process, I did not get one.
