      Review and Translation Associate Interview

      10 Oct 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Kiva in July 2020

      Interview

I was contacted by one of their contractors for an interview, filled out my preferred times, and was set to interview within two weeks. After almost a week had gone by without hearing back, I reached out to the contractor only to be told that the position had been filled. The hiring manager also told me that their "ideal candidate" had been targeted months back. What was the point of still having the job announcement up and highlighted then? In my opinion, this process was very unprofessional. It would have been much less upsetting had they not even reached out to me to schedule an interview and said they had already hired someone in the first place. After reading about their consistent lack of communication to applicants, it's probably best to not consider working with such an organization anyway.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Kiva (New Prague, MN) in Sept 2021

      Interview

Approximately 2 weeks after applying for this position, I received an invitation for a 30-minute phone screen to be scheduled for the following week at a time that was convenient for both me and the interviewer using the Calendly scheduling app. On the day of the phone screen, the interviewer called me 15 minutes later than scheduled, apologizing and blaming their busy meeting schedule. The interview lasted for about 30 minutes. 3 days later, I received an email notifying me that I would be moving forward in the hiring process. I was given a take-home exercise that Kiva called a "Translation and Loan Review Exercise." The deadline for completion of the exercise was 6 days after I received it. I completed the exercise in just one day, and it took me about 2 hours. The test consisted of translating "mock" examples of Kiva loan profiles from Spanish into English, and then reviewing other "mock" examples to check for accuracy and accordance with Kiva policies. The test instructions included a link to a document with condensed information about Kiva's loan profile policies, along with a glossary of commonly used terms and their translations in both Spanish and English to assist candidates in completing the exercise. I submitted the completed exercise to an upload link provided by Kiva. 4 days later, I received a call from the person who had conducted my phone interview, informing me that I did not pass the test and would not be moving forward in the hiring process.

We are disappointed you did not have a positive experience. While we do try our best to set expectations on the possibility of a delay within the Calendly invite instructions, we will do better in our communication to appropriately set timeline expectations. We appreciate your insight and will do better moving forward. Thank you!
