      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Kohl's in Apr 2011

      Interview

I applied to Kohl's probably about a month before I got a call for an interview which I was so excited about because I've been needing a second job. I went in for the interview which was scheduled at 11:30 and talked with the manager that had contacted me. She reviewed my application and just clarified things such as "So you are now working at ...". Then she went over what the hours would be, the pay, and what position I wanted. I told her Sales so she wrote that on my paperwork and then started asking questions like "What do you like/dislike about your job now?" "How would you handle a difficult customer?" "Are you willing to try to get people to sign up for Kohl's credit cards?" and etc. Then after that, she handed me another pile of paperwork to fill out that included tax forms, background check consent, availability, and the start of new hire paperwork. Then I was taken to another room where I talked with the assistant manager who re-asked the same questions, told me what I'd do while working, where department they needed associates for, and then checked my paperwork. When we were done, she said she'd contact me after the background check came in and let me know when orientation would be which was most likely going to be in 2 weeks. Advice -Dress the part! Kohl's requires a casual dress code for employees so don't show up in jeans and a T-shirt or you can kiss the job goodbye. -Don't give short answers. Use detail! -It's okay to take a moment to think of an answer to a question, but do not take too long! -When first greeted by interview, smile and shake their hand. Say something like "It's nice to you meet you. Thank you for seeing me today." I did. -Nod occasionally as interview goes over any details. -Say "yes/no ma'am", "yes/no, sir" -Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you can't think of anything, just say something like "What hours would a typical shift be with my availability?" It will show interest. -Be honest about why you want the job. If you're looking for extra money, tell them that! At least you're being serious with them about the job. You don't have to tell them it's because you just absolutely love the store to make yourself sound good. I needed the extra income to help with school so I told them that. -If asked about how long you plan on working there if hired, don't say "Until I find a better job" or "I figure 6 months should do it". Tell them you want to work there as long as you possibly can. -If for some reason you don't get the job, think back to what might have been wrong and plan on fixing it for your next interview, wherever it may be. Good luck to all you applying! Believe in yourself! i thought I couldn't do it and I did! This was the first job I ever got my own without someone's referral or help. It may not be the best paying job in the world, but at least you will be able to say "I have a job" in this economy if you get it. If you don't get the job, keep trying!

      Interview

Phone screening interview to go over resume and job requirements, mainly confirming what my availability would look like, what it entailed, and if I'd be comfortable with the sales part of the job/promoting the store rewards and credit card. Very friendly and low-pressure conversation over the phone.

      Interview

The process was pretty average, it was just a little awkward trying to find someone to ask to know where I needed to go. Once I got in the back room i was asked pretty normal questions and nothing that was too hard to answer or too perosnal
