There was an open invite to send in your resume and cover letter and to come to one of several hiring fairs (at the store after close). There were 18 applicants at the fair I went to. It was definitely different than most interviews. It feels like a fun workshop, but keep in mind that even though it is a very relaxed, low pressure atmosphere it is still very much an audition. Everyone in charge of it was very friendly and positive (they'll only tell you what they liked about you, not what they didn't like).
We all stood in a circle to introduce ourselves and then they split us up into groups of 4 or 5 and we rotated through 4 different stations (for us it was bath bombs, gifts, massage bars, and perfumes). They'll do a demo and then have you partner up one by one and improv customer interactions. Don't be nervous! Just pay attention to any information you can about what's in the products and act confident. They want to know that you can retain information and that you are comfortable with chatting to customers, touching them for demos, and building a personal relationship with each customer.
At the end we all got a bag of samples and they told us we'd receive a phone call in a day or two if we made it to the next round. The second round is called Culture Hour and mine was really easy (I've seen some reviews on here that sounded harder). Basically it was just a few more in-depth interview questions, and then a redo of a demo I learned at the hiring fair to see how much info I'd retained with the manager. She was very friendly and easy to chat with, as are most LUSH employees.
What they really want to see is your personality, charisma, and that you really care about the company and what it stands for. Do your research, be familiar with LUSH's priorities and projects (naked packaging, fighting animal testing, recycling, sustainable sources for the ingredients, charity pot donations to grassroots organizations, and developing personal, one-on-one relationships with clients to find out what products we make them happy, not just what you can sell them.
