I was called fairly quickly after applying. The interview was set up by the Chief Operating Officer (COO). He asked me via email to "report" to an address in the neighborhood of "Chelsea" however it is really within the Financial District/Tribeca neighborhood. My contact person did not provide proper instructions as to the entrance of the building, which was around the corner from the address provided. I knew I was going to be interviewed by a panel; they included the COO and three social workers. They all had a scripted list of three pages of questions. The interview questions were grossly rigid, and did not allow for an opportunity to know what the position entailed, what the expectations were, and the culture of the agency. The panel rotated as they asked their philosophical questions. The only part that felt most organic was after their questions, when I asked for clarity about the role. In the posting, it was noted for one to travel throughout the five boroughs of NYC, none of which was explained about their expectations of scheduling and other related logistics. Additionally, there was a changed expectation of interviewing more people than what was advertised on the posting. I'm noting difficult in terms of interview difficulty because the description of the role was not congruent to the posting. I am quite versed in social work and have interviewed staff myself; however, I left quite disappointed and with a negative impression about Legal Services NYC.
