I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lightyear (London, England)
Interview
There was a phone call and a first round of interviews. The phone call was fine, just as you would expect.
The first proper round of the interview wasn't great. I felt that the interviewer was more interested in sussing out the operational processes in my current workplace, rather than my skill set and potential.

Question 1
I don't remember anymore, but it was a range. They hinted at needing someone to work beyond 9-5.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
We aim to make our interviews a genuine conversation. Our interviewers often ask about current operational processes to get a better understanding of a candidate’s experience and the context in which they work. That said, we really appreciate your feedback—it helps us see where we can improve and adjust our approach to better focus on what truly matters: skills and potential.
Thanks again for being open with us, and we wish you all the best in your next steps.

Interview
I recently attended an interview with Lightyear for a compliance related role, and I must say the experience was both disappointing and concerning.
The interview was conducted by someone with no relevant compliance or regulatory background, specifically a customer support professional who appeared unqualified to assess the technical expertise required for such a critical role. The interviewer posed questions about identifying UBO which is like very basic level and areas like integrating Hungarian registered businesses, yet his lack of understanding of compliance frameworks, strategic risk management, and regulatory processes was evident.
It quickly became clear that the interviewer was gathering ideas rather than genuinely assessing my qualifications or expertise. This raised serious ethical concerns, as it felt like the purpose of the interview might have been more about extracting insights or collecting information for an internal project rather than evaluating a candidate for the role.
Compliance is a highly specialized field and ensuring that controls are designed, implemented, and monitored effectively requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks. Having someone with no expertise in this area conduct the interview was not only unprofessional but also feels disrespectful to the process and to candidates time.
Upon reviewing the interviewers background, I discovered he had previously worked at Wise, a company where governance is a joke, one person keeps jumping from one department to other departments due to lack of expertise or improving the quality of product or services. This strengthened my impression that Lightyear is not taking its compliance hiring seriously.
Furthermore, the process seemed overly focused on “culture fit” rather than the technical qualifications required for the role. Having great cultural alignment was one of the important reason for applying, however it should not come at the expense of evaluating the candidate’s ability to meet the technical and strategic demands of a compliance role.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lightyear (Tallinn) in May 2024
Interview
The interview process was very simple and laid back. Easy way to set a date and time that fitted my schedule. During the interview itself it was also very good and friendly atmosphere.
At the end of the interview I was told that they would get back to me in a couple of days, but no email or contact was received by me. After 2 weeks I sent a friendly reminder E-mail but still after 2 weeks of that still no reply. Very disappointed in getting ghosted as the interview seemed to go positively so my hopes were high. Also the fact that I took time out of my vacation to take this interview was an even further disappointment on my part.

What compliance related project have you worked on before ?
Thanks for sharing your experience. We're really happy to hear the interview process was accommodating and friendly.
Sorry about the lack of follow-up after your interview. That was a mistake on our part, and we apologize for it. Normally, we make sure to give feedback to all our candidates. We totally get how frustrating it is, especially since you took time out of your vacation.
We're figuring out what went wrong to make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks for letting us know!
