All interviews are formal, but this felt very robotic and cold. They introduced themselves and went straight into a tough round of STAR based questions. I appreciate time pressures will have driven this, but it would've been nice for them to talk about their company. I spent a lot of time doing my due diligence and they asked me nothing about what I knew about them. I find this is often an insight to the company culture and what it might be like to work for them. A hiring manager should have enthusiasm and passion for their company and this should come across, it is a two way street, they need to sell themselves to you too! The questions were standard STAR, but as I am from a different sector I found offering an example situation to one question a challenge.
