The interview took place in a very casual environment which helped put me at ease. We quickly established a good rapport as they laid out the full job description as well as basic expectations. Given my current work history as well as skill level, I felt that I exceeded the minimum requirements for this position. The technical questions were very reasonable and I felt that I answered them with great proficiency as well as detail. The interview went on for roughly an hour. We went back and forth from very technical questions to very light personal questions. At one point the interviewer even offered me a beer which I found to be very unorthodox but not necessarily unethical. I declined the offer but the interview continued at relaxed pace. I really wanted this job and I felt that I would be a very nice addition to the company; I could not have been more pleased with how well the interview went. The interview concluded with the interviewer happily explaining to me what to expect next on their end he assured me that there would be a call in a day or two giving me the impression that there would definitely be a next set of interviews. We shook hands one last time with him telling me how positive the whole experience was along with assurance that I can expect a call in the next day or so with their decision to either move forward or a decline.
Eventually days went by and eventually weeks with no follow up on their end at all, I tried emailing and calling to no avail. I was truly disappointed and not because I wasn’t chosen for the position but because I didn’t receive so much as a rejection email. This was a very unprofessional gesture in my opinion I have never been strung along by a company like that before; it is very rude to tell somebody after a long seemingly great interview that you will definitely call them regardless of the outcome and don’t follow through. I have been on many interviews throughout my career and this is the first time that I have ever been compelled to give negative feedback.
