      Engineer Interview

      14 Mar 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Newark, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Lucid Motors (Newark, CA) in Mar 2019

      Interview

I applied back in late Oct of 2018 and didn't receive contact till 2019. Three rounds of technical phone interviews from one team member, one manager, and one VP. I actually find the VP phone call to be a bit eccentric and empty since he just asked me what was my proudest achievement and told me relatively little about the company when I asked ( he did tell me they moved to a new office, which, I have learned from the internet prior to that conversation). Two weeks after, I was invited onsite for a 3-4 hour technical interview sessions with HR rep, then at least 6 team members from different discipline and then VP & CTO himself. A little note, the CTO tends to be very hands on and the management team is very transparent so they want an engr staff meeting at 8am every working day and bi-weekly All-hands. CTO loves getting involve in all decisions from hiring to design to your work hours. Right off the bat, i was told you only get salary, 10-14 day PTO annual accrual(sick*+vacation*),discounted insurance, a fully vested 401K(since they don't contribute), BUT, they forgot to mention about the experience you'd get working long hours, a hotel-like gym shared by the entire business park, and the free snack pantry!! (cafeteria is not free) Overall, seems to be solid company? but I didn't really get a chance to ask about their work culture, business strategy on how to differentiate themselves, and they didn't want to/get to know me as a person. I'd say I kinda got a hint based on the majority of company were still in their open office on Friday 7pm & when HR had difficulty answering if teams socialize in a non-work environment. The only person that I had a social-nontechnical conversation with was the hardware group manager. Smart and hardworking ppl.
