I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Lucky's Pub & Grille (Southfield, MI) in Apr 2010
Interview
When I went to Lucky's for a night out I saw that the atmosphere was good and the workers had fun. I thought it might be an interesting place to work so I asked a girl working there how to apply. She said they were currently hiring and to bring in a copy of my resume and ask to speak to a manager.
I did this but I didn't know that you were interviewed on the spot. I was wearing jeans and a tank top, I thought I was just going to be dropping off my resume. When I walked in there about five girls already there and the hostess told me to sit with them and she took my resume to the manager. While I waited about 15 more girls showed up. When speaking to the manager there were some girls that were just in and out, you could tell they hadn't gotten the job. These girls were dressed in a messy way, had no make-up on, or didn't have their hair done right.
When you go you can wear a suit type outfit but I feel you would be over dressed. Just wear a cute, nicely fitting outfit that shows off your body. Have your hair done nicely with no colors that aren't natural like purple or pink. Put some make-up on, not too much but at least some mascara and lip gloss. Also they don't hire people under the age of 18, a few of the girls were out just because of that.
When my name got called I went to speak with the manager. He appraised my look and I guess it was satisfactory because he didn't send me out immediately. He looked at my resume and saw that I didn't have waitress experience and said I couldn't be a waitress with no experience because I would be overwhelmed by the amount of people that come. I suggest that if you want to be a waitress, have experience or put that you have experience with it on your resume. He said that I would be good for a hostess/shot girl position though. I asked him what a shot girl is because I had limited knowledge of bars/clubs and he said it's a girl that walks around with a tray of shots. He asked a few more questions like if I was currently in school, did I have a car or reliable transportation, and was I willing to work late hours and then the interview was over.
I considered it a good sign that my interview lasted a lot longer than most of the other girls before me and a week later he called me and told me to come in for training.
