I don't know if interviewer's intonation or just plain rude. The interviewer can just answer it generally without comparing. I did ask how much budget does this company could offer. There's no need for " If you have the skill, you will get high salary, unlike you, you will get lesser". You could just say the range expected salary. There is no need to compare. I would like to comment that the interviewer is very unprofessional.
