The interview process was pretty straightforward. I felt confident going in as I've been in retail management for almost 10 years. I had recently stepped out of a management role to pursue a freelance design career and just wanted something to subsidize my income. It was a three part interview. First phase was with an assistant manager, second phase was a styling portion and the last part was with the store manager. I felt really good about how the interview was going so far and thought that the people I spoke with seemed competent and knowledgeable. At the very end of the interview I was asked if I would be willing to take out my nose piercing while at work (I'm not). I thought this was odd as employees working at that time had tattoos. I was told that tattoos are acceptable, but "facial piercings" are not. While this isn't necessarily something that can be avoided at the store level, I thought it was incredibly strange that a company so immersed in the creative scene would let a qualified candidate walk away based on a nose ring. Especially strange since I know people who work for their parent company, J Crew, who have nose piercings...Overall was disappointed with my experience because I think I would have enjoyed working there and really liked the managers that I spoke with.
