My experience with this company raises red flags. I was initially contacted just the day before via text message to coordinate scheduling for the next 2 days, requiring flexibility and quick turnaround on my end. That same flexibility was not extended in return. I gave my open scheduling between 9-9:30am or 10-10:30am the next day, and 9am-11am the following day. From my availability, it’s easy to infer that I had a call going on 9:30am-10am. They chose 10-10:30am. I was being polite to my first caller wrapping up our meeting 8 minutes late. Right after, I tried to join this initial interview. After I attempted to join, I opened my email to send a follow up to apologize and explain, and saw I received a rejection email. The timing was strange, as though the rejection was ready to be issued rather than any effort being made to connect first. There was no outreach, no grace period, and no attempt to understand my situation. The automatic rejection included a personalized note that I did not join the interview, a pointed response rather than the standard, neutral reject email. I still sent a follow up email to apologize that I was late, and explained that I am balancing my work schedule and other back-to-back interview processes as companies often do these processes during the same time periods. I noted that I saw the rejection and expressed how negative this was handled, since I was not given a chance to explain. The reply they gave was sarcastic and rude - “I am glad to know everything is ok, and sorry that you weren’t able to communicate in advance to meet at our scheduled time.” Overall, this process comes across as highly transactional and overly rigid, and the people lack consideration and empathy. They expected my flexibility, but couldn’t offer me the same. There are a handful of times where I had an interviewer that was running late, and I took the initiative to check in with them without making judgments and assumptions, especially in under 10 minutes.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Magnolia Bakery in June 2021
Interview
The interview process was very casual. I met with the general manager at the bakery and we chatted over coffee. We talked through my work history and reviewed my resume and I showed some samples of previous work.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Magnolia Bakery
Interview
A initial phone call screening lasting 30mins, a follow up request for availability to interview with key senior members, panel interview with 3 senior members that's was over an hour, then a meeting with CEO for another 45mins
