Applications Support Engineer- Engineering Development Group Interview

      31 July 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at MathWorks in July 2015

      Interview

The first round was Resume short listing. Be sure to mention important projects which you have done using MATLAB/Simulink. Then we had to give an offline video interview for a set of prerecorded questions and a short survey link was sent which had basic HR questions. We had to give one of the options among the four streams -Computer Science Track,Embedded System Track,Signal Processing Track,Control Theory Track and I chose Control theory. Make sure you choose one of these four and prepare accordingly. A shortlist was then sent to students who were then selected for the technical written test which consisted of questions from C programming, MATLAB, Control systems and mathematics. Study the basic MATLAB commands for sure. They will definitely ask to write code snippet for a few questions in the technical exam. A shortlist was again sent to students to attend the technical interview. I could make it only till the technical interview stage. After that there were two more rounds- Managerial and final HR round. Needless to say, Managerial round is also a shortlisting round. So you have to be very careful at each and every stage/round of the process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Most of the questions are in line with those provided in the Glassdoor website.Since I chose Control theory, the interviewer asked questions related to proportional controllers, their disadvantages, bode plots, gain margin, phase margin, second order characteristic equation and importance of time constant, settling time, rise time etc. Also modern control theory which included questions on state space model and it's significance.I was specifically asked to write state space matrix equations for non-linear system of equations and then about Lyapunov stability. Programming questions were mostly on pointers and storage classes. I did not do that well in programming which I think is the reason for me being eliminated in the technical interview. Had I done well the interviewer would have asked questions from MATLAB and Mathematics also.
