Simple & straightforward. I had just come back to NY from a west coast backpacking trip at the time so I had plenty of enthusiasm and stories to share with the manager. I was asked a little about my food service experience & background, we mostly talked about previous job duties. I was initially hired as a hostess and became a server after a few months of employment.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Am I willing to clean the restroom. The manager wanted to make sure I was a team player.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Max Brenner (Boston, MA) in Jan 2015
Interview
Applied online and was called within three days. Met with two managers in one day. Lots of questions about customer service, looking for someone who smiles a lot and has a good attitude. They never checked any of my references but asked a lot about my prior experiences but were more interested in the service that I could provide to guests at the restaurant. They were interviewing somebody at the same time and he ended up getting the job as well; very easy to get hired here.
I applied in-person. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Max Brenner (Boston, MA) in June 2011
Interview
I had an initial interview and was asked to come back for a second one to speak with a manager. In the second discussion, I was told that at least one weekend shift would be required. I explained that it conflicted with a prior commitment I had and I would be happy to give up the more lucrative weekend shifts but they refused to even consider that possibility. Very unusual for a restaurant to demand weekend shifts that most workers would fight over.
