      Sales Development Representative Interview

      21 Oct 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Meltwater (New York, NY) in Oct 2016

      Interview

Applied online through The Muse. Received an e-mail attempting to set up a brief phone interview the following week. After the phone interview we set up a date for a face-to-face interview at their office in the city. Prior to the interview I was required to fill out a questionnaire of almost 20 questions. Was told that the interview would be from 9-11am. Arrived at 8:40, the interview didn't begin until 9:10 after one final person arrived. It turned out to be a group interview with about 9 candidates. As we entered the conference room 9 members of the Meltwater management team met us. They sat on the other side of the table. After they introduced themselves they got into a PowerPoint presentation about the company, the PR suite/Marketing, and the breakdown in the office. After an hour of the presentation we introduced ourselves and were told that we would be doing a group presentation following a short 15-minute break (mingle session). Once we came back from the break we were split into groups and told to choose a current company that could benefit from Meltwater. We then had to present why we believed they were a good choice even though we didn't know much about how Meltwater services its customers. Following that we were given one minute to sell one of our passions to the room, which turned out to be quite funny actually. That concluded the group interview; those who were impressive in their public speaking abilities were asked back for a solo panel interview. We were told we would be called before noon with the verdict on if they would like to see us later in the afternoon. This portion of the interview was never mentioned until the end of the group interview. After camping at a nearby coffee shop for an hour, I received the phone call and I was asked back in the afternoon for the panel interview. The panel interview didn’t take place until later in the afternoon (such a long process). Upon my return there were 5 members of the management team sitting on the opposite side of the table. This portion of the interview was difficult as the questions were asked quickly and were intended to force the interviewee to challenge the team and rebuttal. There was a bit of role-playing involved, which showed how quickly the interviewee could think on their feet. Overall the interview took a lot longer than one would think (all day) and it wasn't expressed that the interview would be a group process. The office is really nice, the team is young and personable, and it seems like a fun and challenging company.

      Interview

30 minute phone interview by Lydia Genovesi. It was all going well until she asked me what I've been doing since I graduated. She seemed miffed that I was looking for jobs & pursuing art. Cut me off when I said goodbye. Very rude.

      Interview

Individual, then group presentations. Sort of fun and thought provoking. Definitely for people coming out of undergrad. Focused mostly on personality type and previous experience. There was also a writing portion where you had to reflect on personal achievements and answer dinner party-like questions.
