Network Deployment Engineer, University Grad Interview

      5 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Prineville, OR
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Meta (Prineville, OR) in Jan 2019

      Interview

This position was based in Prineville, Oregon which is Facebook's first data center. It was my privilege that I have got a chance to interview at Facebook Inc in January 2019. The entire process was very simple, straight forward and clear, from both HR and all technical people who had taken my interview. I applied through LinkedIn job portal and got a call within 2 weeks. First round was by HR for initial screening, followed by one round of telephonic interview(technical) and leaded to on-site interview. Got a chance to visit data center location. There were in total 5 different rounds on interview, three technical rounds by different engineers such as Hardware Design Engineer, Senior Engineer, and one Software deployment Engineer. All people were extremely friendly through out entire process and questions asked were very specific and detail oriented. As being a university grad, you need to be very clear about all Networking fundamentals! Thats a key part needs to be strong for any university grad position. They won't ask you very deep or mind boggling questions on Networking domain, but all necessary technologies which commonly uses in day to to day networking roles. So make sure you are so sure about their basic operation(how it works) and all related aspect that it covers, specially in terms of Data center operations. Other two rounds among 5 rounds of on-site interview was done by Network Deployment Manager and Senior Network Deployment Manager. They will mostly emphasize on all hypothetical, situational, behavioral questions and scenarios. Your correct answer is secondary thing, but they just want to see what is your thinking process to resolve that specific issue and your thinking process for the same. If your approach is leading in rite direction then you are good to go. HR was very sweet and extremely friendly in nature. She guided me in a very efficient way through out entire process. Her gesture and dealing with me approach was very helpful to make me less nervous to be interviewed for 'The Facebook.' I think this is the key thing of big B companies that the way they handle their candidates and employees.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Due to Non-Disclosure agreement, I cannot disclose any questions here. But my advice would be clear all your networking fundamentals, their operations and how can you able to utilize them in real time networking operations and issues. Day to day working operations of VLAN, PVLAN, STP, RSTP, Split horizon, VRRP, HSRP, commonly used routing protocols such as OSPF, MPLS, BGP, RIP, EIGRP, IS-IS, ECMP, SNMP, ICMP, etc. In terms of coding, clear your data structure knowledge in terms of Network Automation, such as explain and code how to configure any of the routing protocols on one to may routers or switches at the same time. So be prepared well with python scripting language, network automation tools such as Ansible, automation libraries like Napalm, Netmiko, Paramiko. I think this would be enough for you to make through it. I was able to crack the interview but since I didn't had any relevant internship or full time experience, they didn't move forward with me, but advised me to get relevant experience for couple of months and reapply. Entire experience was very positive! I would definitely love to consider Facebook as my future place to work for.
