      Director Data Science Interview

      2 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Meta in June 2024

      Interview

I participated in four interview rounds with the recruiter, hiring manager, Data Director, and Data VP. The interviews included extensive analysis and high-level behavioral questions. Unfortunately, the process was poorly coordinated, with a significant lack of communication. Initially, I was offered an interview for a specific role, but then I was placed in a candidate pool without any follow-up. It appears this is a common practice for them.

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Meta

      Interview

First (informal) conversation with VP Analytics, brief screener with HR, 45 minute zoom case study with Data Science Director. The initial conversations were positive, but the case study interview I found very strange: - The questions were almost entirely product management-focussed: nothing about data science and very little even related to analytics. The questions were not difficult exactly (as they do send you a preparation guide), it's more that the role is mis-labelled. - They are not interested in you or your experience or even your point of view, they are just trying to see if you think in the "Facebook way" - Very clearly a one-way interview, no attempt to sell working at Facebook, and literally one minute for questions from me - The interviewer was formal and brusque

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Meta (Menlo Park, CA) in June 2020

      Interview

overall process was really good. very streamlined. Especially the recruiters were organized and on time with all the arrangements. They were very transparent and open about the overall process. However some of the people were creepy. It was obvious they were just there for the money...Didn't really know data science that well
