I was asked during the interview if I self-identify as an indigenous person and when I answered “no,” the interviewer’s demeanour changed and it really felt like just a courtesy call at that point. I was pretty disappointed with that, I didn’t expect that it would be a requirement to be indigenous to work here, and I think a better approach would be to ask candidates during the application how they identify and give them the option not to answer as this may be seen as discriminatory. I was then ghosted after the interview and never heard back despite being told they’d get back to me by end of week.
