I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Microchip Technology (Gresham, OR)
Interview
Process began with phone discussion with HR recruiter who was helpful in giving me insight and advice about company and position. At this time, he gave me a salary range for the position, which was a little bit lower than I hoped for, but workable at the top. He mentioned that he knew he wouldn't be able to find someone at the bottom end. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager, which went well...the position seemed challenging yet interesting.
I was flown out for two nights, and had an 8 hour interview with 5 people. I had a very nice lunch offsite with the team, and took a thorough tour of the clean room. From the teammates that I met, and what I learned, I felt that I would learn a lot in the position. During the last portion of the interview, the manager mentioned that the company paid well, but not great. Leaving, I was not sure how well I did, but a week later recieved an offer. It was $10k less than the low end of the range mentioned at the beginning of the process, but was told with benefits such as a bonus and potential stock earnings, I would be at the low end of the range. High turnover was mentioned in the interview. With a strong job market at the time, in order to hire and retain talent, competitive salaries should be offered.
