      Recruiting Manager Interview

      10 Mar 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mockingbird

      Interview

I met with the HM, who was very kind, and then I met with several members of the executive team, each for an hour long. The second round interviews were... odd. It was really clear the interviewers hadn't really been trained on how to interview people. They asked behavioral-based interview questions and it was clear the HM had put them in CAR or STAR format for the interviewer to dig into candidate's answers. I would answer the questions and then the interviewers would say "I know you already answered this question but here's the same follow-up question that you already answered" The interview with some of the individuals were bit odd and off-putting. When I asked an executive how they would partner with a first recruiting manager they said they didn't know. When I asked them about how they would describe the role and what was needed they all gave a very different answer than the hiring manager and even provided an incorrect headcount plan. Each interviewer spent a full 55 minutes interviewing me and left me only 5 minutes for questions. In more than one interview we got to the 10-minute remaining mark and I would attempt to ask questions and they said "well I still have 1 more question to ask you and then I'll answer yours" Overall the process was intensely impersonal and it didn't give me a great impression of the company. I contemplated writing this review, but I hope that having it here will give the interviewers and the team the feedback that they could use some interview training and also remember that a candidate should be able to ask questions and interview you as well!
