I applied for a Junior Recruiter/Resource Development Manager role. The job description said “If you are a non-technical recruiter who wants to learn the tech field or an IT professional who wants to learn recruitment, we will train - please apply!
During the phone screen the senior recruiter told me the pay was $50-55K.
A couple of days later I was invited to a video interview WITH the contingency that I be ok with $45-50K. The reason? Because I did not have a background in IT recruiting. Mind you it's an ENTRY level job and I DO have 2 solid years of recruiting experience WITH some IT experience; plus a ton of professional experience. BUT ok, I agreed.
Then, I was invited to a 3rd and final round with the hiring manager. The interview went well so I took an assessment that I was told during the phone screen needed to be completed prior to an offer being made. The next day I received a call from the recruiter telling me she had “good” and “bad” news.
Good news they were going to offer the job.
Bad news for only $40K since I scored two points below their assessment threshold.
It’s not the money that is an issue. It’s the fact that after EVERY round they kept finding a way to decrease the compensation. WOW. What a SHADY business practice!!
I reached out to my SHRM network and every single person (10!) unanimously said don’t walk away but RUN away from this offer/company.
Well, they lost not only a great candidate but I will NEVER support doing business with them as they have successfully branded themselves as jerks.
And as luck would have it at the time of writing this post I accepted another job with a GREAT company.
