I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (Sydney) in May 2022
Interview
Very lengthy since it was about 7 phases. Hiring Team are genuinely kind and respectful at the begining, they look a fresh startup company but in fact they are old school culture still wearing old hats like Oracle sales. My last challenge was ended up bad. It is Okay me fail. But they feedback & treated me as guilty from my mistakes. I learned a lot technically, but I did not learn any other aspects from the challenge. I saw drastic face-off from smiley to angry from the hiring manager as soon as he realized I failed their challenge. The hiring manager may feel he wasted his time, but I also equally wasted my time to prepare it. Very selfish and rude hiring manager who has clearly two faces therefore not pleasant experience in my overall. Somewhat I feel lucky I could not make it since I can imagine working with him will cause more pain for me later. Don't try hard yourself to fit in their fixed-mind culture many learned from the bad of RDBMS while they are ironically trying to sell flexibility though NoSQL. Their culture I saw is very toxic while they are aggressively moving more into commercial rather than technical mindset from their real value originated from opensource. Don't dream they are empowering you.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2026
Interview
Process was clear and steps were clarified along the way. Very positive experience with the team involved in the interview process. The environment and technical challenges were different than my current job role in positive ways. I do not believe I hit the right skills in key areas to advance in the process to the final interview and offer phase.
