I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (New York, NY) in Oct 2022
Interview
Total process was about 5 weeks from application to offer. Mongo was my top pick from 6 companies I did onsite interviews with. I was really impressed by the team. The process felt challenging but fair. I received a first response from a recruiter for phone screen 1-2 weeks after applying. This was followed by a 60min hiring manager interview. That was followed by virtual onsite, consisting of 5 interviews: VP of Engineering, Sr. Product Manager, VP of Product, technical interview with an engineer on team I'd be joining, and a wrap up with the Hiring Manager. Received verbal offer same day as last interview. Finalized negotiations within about 1 week.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
General questions: (1)'Consider one product you interact with daily. What, if anything, would you like to change about it and why?'(2) 'What makes for a good api?' (3)'Explain a complex technical topic of your choice to an audience of four year olds'
Coding exercises: Challenge 1: -implement a method to take the set-wise intersection of two arrays. Followup: (1)give the time complexity and space complexity of the implemented algorithm. (2)implement a solution using primitive arrays (I initially used the built-in set library in C#).(3) Iterate on the primitive array implementation to achieve constant space and linear time complexity. Challenge 2: -implement a method to check whether a given binary tree is balanced.
6 rounds of interviews, and the recruiter got back to me quickly after each round to let me know that I would be moving on until the final one. I was very excited and even took time to learn more about their DB products as they wanted someone who could communicate technical requirements.

Question 1
How to manage customer expectations and cross-functional teams?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at MongoDB in July 2025
Interview
I got contact by recruiter for the senior PM role and successfully passed the first round of interviews. My status in the recruitment portal was updated to reflect progression to the next stage, which led me to believe I was still under active consideration. However, I later received an email stating the role had been filled by an external candidate, with no prior warning or clarity about competing applicants.
Feedback for Improvement:
While I appreciate the opportunity to interview, the process lacked transparency. If a candidate’s portal status suggests advancement, but the company is simultaneously closing the role, clearer communication would prevent false hope and wasted effort. Future applicants should seek explicit confirmation on their standing, as status updates may not reflect reality.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB in May 2025
Interview
Applied online, had a referrer inside via current colleague. Got a quick response from recruiter for a 30 min call with basic questions. Call with hiring manager within a week, then a 'virtual onsite' of 4 calls with different people. Interviews were relatively informal with questions like "tell me about the time when...", concentrated a lot to stakeholder management and escalations. No technical questions really. Got a good feel from the interviews and later on recruiter reached out to ask about my green card status but then received a standard "we won't be proceeding with your application" email. No feedback on the interviews.
