      Lead Engineer Interview

      14 June 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (Pittsburgh, PA) in May 2023

      Interview

Pretty normal tech interview: recruiter call, hiring manager call, then 3 technical interviews (coding, system design, behavioral, etc.), 1 final VP-level call, and then an offer. Overall it was a good process: transparent and fair (I'm biased, since I got the job!).

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Lots of behavioral stuff (e.g.: tell me about a time when...) as well as straight-forward prove-you-can-code stuff (DSA, but not at a FAANG level of difficulty)

      Lead Engineer Interview

      19 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at MongoDB in Jan 2021

      Interview

      - recruiter screen - hiring manager interview pretty classic recruiter screen and then followed by hiring manager interview mostly behavioral. It took them 2 weeks to get back to me after the hiring manager interview for various reasons. I got rejected with the "sorry other candidates already in late-stage of the process and we think their experience aligns more closely with the role" feedback. (after a month the role is still open so clearly, this is not exactly the case) According to my experience, I would say they are bad at hiring as much as any avg tech company, or maybe I was unlucky, not sure. No proper follow-up after the interview even with multiple pings and the excuse for rejection was pretty weak so no learning points from the process.

      Question 1

      - classic HR and hiring manager questions, mostly behavioral.

      Lead Engineer Interview

      17 July 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Dublin, Dublin
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (Dublin, Dublin) in May 2019

      Interview

Fairly standard interview for a big tech company these days, with a HT call, then some live coding interviews, followed by an all day on site, with lunch with the team in the interview room. It didn't feel like there were trick questions - it was engineers solving straight forward engineer problems that can be solved in a limited time, with follow on questions on looking at the same problem in different ways. Everyone was friendly and well prepared for the process, helping you along the way and pulling you back when you went into the weeds too much.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Coding test: Real world scenario and to write some code to handle it.
