Dr. Pinto called me in for interview. She even assured me that she had so high regard for me that she has contacted HR to get me employed. At the time I had another job offer, which she even asked me to postpone for Mt. Sinai's HR to contact me. After that, my countless follow ups were met with no response. Two months later, I see this position posted again. I know companies who don't response even after a couple of interviews is quite normal, but to promise hire to a point that risks a candidate's other job offer, and just completely ignore the candidate without reason is just unbecoming of such a large cooperation.
So, here's my assessment of possible "reasons":
1. She was trying to determine to right price to hire. Nothing new, I've seen others done the same.
2. She ran out of budget.
3. She had ulterior intention which she learned that it was unlikely to happen during the interview.
4. She later thought that I was not qualified, but then why the silence and false hope?
Bottom line, I think this is very irresponsible and hence I would question the stability of this job title. I had said $70k before, which she happily agreed. But with such instability, I would advise minimum base of $120k for something like this, or stay away from it completely.
