The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Multiverse (London, England) in June 2024

      Interview

Multiverse has the potential to be a progressive company, but my interview experience was disappointing and reflected a problematic sales culture. Despite being told the process would involve three stages, it extended to five (or six, including a last-minute cancellation). On two occasions, the scheduled interviewers were absent, which was unprofessional. The required intro and reflection emails felt unnecessary, and the process created an atmosphere where I was expected to feel overly grateful for the opportunity, neglecting the fact that interviews are a two-way street. The final task was overly lengthy, with constant challenges to my responses, even when logically sound. Despite Multiverse’s focus on DEI and equitable opportunity, I was instructed not to mention these in the role play. The overall experience left me feeling inadequate, which no interview process should do. I was also surprised by conflicting information: while Peppa Wise stated that 65% of the sales team is female, the hiring manager indicated it was actually male-dominated. This inconsistency was another red flag. In conclusion, if you're a salesperson who enjoys predominantly cold calling and is solely motivated by money (not by their ethos), Multiverse might suit you. Otherwise, I would recommend steering clear.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continuously improve our interview process. Firstly, we want to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected changes to your interview schedule - we understand this can be disruptive, but we also understand that unexpected events happen and we have to look out for our employees too. Regarding your point about the DEI focus, it seems there may have been a misunderstanding during the role play. The intention and expectation of the role play task has never been to downplay the importance of DEI but rather assess your ability to align with the specific business pain points of the stakeholders in the scenario given. In this context, the pain point of our task is not DEI focused. Lastly, we acknowledge from the start that this role involves a significant focus on pipeline generation, including cold calling. We aim to be transparent about this from the outset to ensure that candidates have a clear understanding of the role's expectations. I agree that interviews should be a two-way street, and I am sorry you left the process feeling this way. Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Interview

3 casual interviews, for which I seemed to be bounced around without any strategic direction. When asked who my manager would be, it changed at every stage. A full presentation (which required significant prep) without any feedback. Face to face in London with someone who had been on the job for less than one week. Managers dialled in virtually which begged the question of why I needed to go there. After all of that I had to chase Multiverse in order to get a response, which was akin to a first stage email auto-rejection (that I had to chase up to even get), It's hard to get excited about a company or a role like that. I also reached out and spoke to previous employees and the negative feeedback you can see on Glassdoor was similar across the board. I gave the company the benefit of the doubt but I wouldn't go near them with a barge pole now.

      Interview

Very thorough, with very clear, pointed questions. They do let you know how to prepare, which is great - they do pressure you but you're warned and it feels like it's done in good faith, to see if you can actually perform in the role. Felt very dynamic and structured. Be extra prepared and to the point.
