I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at N26 (Barcelona) in Feb 2021
Interview
Overall all the people that took place on the hiring process was super friendly and respectful. The technical challenge at N26 was very funny and interesting to complete!
The process involved 4 steps:
- Recruiting Partner
- Tech challenge
- Techinical interview
- Engineering Manager interview

Interview
It was a nice process. Everyone was nice and professional. It ranks high on my interviewing experiences. We started out with a little internet "puzzle" - anyone with a basic understanding of APIs and http shouldn't have much trouble with it. The first interview was with an HR person who asked general technology questions - he was nice and more knowledgeable about the subjects than other HR people with whom I've interviewed. The second interview was with a couple of developers - all very nice and we had an interesting conversation. I didn't make make it to a third interview - they said (fairly) that I didn't have enough experience with security (very important to them because they do banking) and accessibility (which they stress highly). It was an overseas position so it was all online, by video.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
General questions about design patterns and practices.
This interview was the first round in the hiring process of the company.
From the very beginning, the Tech Recruiting Partner from Barcelona did not seem like she wanted to be there. Kept looking around frantically, in a rush to get through the questions.
Only by the end, when we were freely discussing N26 and what the role is about, she stopped looking around and got calmer.
Afterwards, I did not even receive a rejection, never mind a reason.
The second-worst interview experience throughout my life. And I've had my fair share of interviews across a variety of countries and industries.
