I set up a profile on the University of Leeds careers site and saw the Inclusive Recruitment Support Officer.
First of all I submitted an online application via the careers site, and following that, I was invited for an in-person interview.
I was actually on holiday and was away from home when I was invited but the team were very accommodating and gave me plenty of options for dates/times to include enough time for me to prepare once I was back from holiday.
I was going to ask for the interview questions in advance as a reasonable adjustment, but this was actually already being offered to all candidates as a trial,
I attended the interview and was warmly welcomed by the interview panel. I was made to feel very comfortable and at ease and felt able to deliver my responses in the way I had planned. There were a few off the cuff questions, just to keep it conversational and natural and overall, I enjoyed the chance to meet the hiring panel and practice my interview skills in such a nice environment after 20 years with the same employer.
I was told when I'd be contacted with my outcome and this timeline was adhered to, which I really appreciated. I was also offered an opportunity to receive feedback, which I took up.
That follow up feedback conversation was really beneficial and the feedback I was given was extremely helpful and constructive.
I was able to offer some feedback too and, after keeping in touch with the NCAS contacts following that conversation, I have learned that action was taken off the back of my feedback.
I really felt valued, heard and respected after this whole process and though I wasn't successful in securing the role I applied for, I would absolutely apply for other roles coming up at NCAS after such a positive application/interview experience.
