I applied for a position and shortly received an email with a take-home assignment, which involved outlining a project plan for a new technical marketing initiative. I completed the task and submitted it, but did not hear back until a month later, when I was informed the position had been filled by another candidate. What I found odd was that at no point did I have any direct communication with anyone, such as a phone screen or interview. Given the effort put into the assignment, it felt a bit impersonal, especially when there was no real interaction throughout the process. A simple conversation could have made the experience more engaging and left me with a better sense of the company's approach to hiring.
