A painfully slow interview process. I don't think HR values the time of the candidate. The first call I got from HR was around 15 minutes late. No apology, but ok. The call was just experience-based. The HR woman seemed a bit frazzled, like she really didn't have time for the interview. I talked to an engineer next. He sounded very pretentious over the phone, and really didn't value any of the experience I brought to the table. This just felt like a typical startup attitude.
From what I learned, the development of products has no legitimate process at Navdy. They rely heavily on outside consultants and contract suppliers to get stuff done that other places would handle in-house. Oh, and they wanted 35% travel. Navdy: Do yourself a favor and hire some personnel to be on the ground at your suppliers. You will never find a talented ME willing to spend 35% of his/her time overseas. You will get people who don't have a life, and they'll live a sad existence commuting back and forth from China. Sorry, but that's the truth. Ultimately, I'm glad they did not pursue me further, because I would never have accepted an offer.
I strongly recommend people stay away from this position at Navdy!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Experience questions. Few things on statics, MOM, and manufacturing.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Navdy (San Francisco, CA) in July 2016
Interview
I applied online then followed with a brief phone interview, then I got a coding test which required to finish in swift. I spent a few hours on the weekend and submit it.Then I got a Skype interview with one of the iOS engineers and also did coding in swift.
After the Skype interview I was invited to the head office In SF for an onsite interview. I gave half an hour presentation and was interviewed by three people.
Overall, the interview was not difficult, but I felt not being respected at all.
I was told my interview with the last person, who is a VP, was cancelled because he had a phone call. I was told I would get feedback in 48 hrs, I ended up waiting for one week. They told me I didn't get the position because I don't have enough experience in swift.
WTF??? There is not a single question that I need to answer in swift in the onsite interview. I did both my coding test and skype interview coding in swift. If I'm not qualified, don't waste my time for the onsite interview.
I used my one day PTO and drove 4 hours to the head office. When I asked if I can get reimbursement of the mileages and parking, they made me feel like I'm begging for the money. I stopped talking to them after that.
With my experience, it was the worst company I've ever interviewed with.
Hello and thank you for your feedback. Simply put, we are very sorry to have made you feel disrespected in any way—that is never our intention. Our goal is to provide all candidates with a speedy and transparent interview process and it sounds like we missed the mark by a long shot. That said, please direct any further feedback to alisa.grange@navdy.com and we will try to make right whatever we can.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Navdy (San Francisco, CA) in July 2016
Interview
Brief phone interview, then a take home exam to write some code nothing crazy or too time consuming. a good exercise that captures the essence of basic functionality in iOS and programming in general.
The we had a Skype interview and an onsite interview.
The Skype interview was very pleasant, well organized and well thought of. The person I interviewed with was very clear asked relevant questions about the code exercise in addition to other programming and iOS related questions.
Onsite interview was well planned the office looks very cool and the environment was very calm and looked like people were engaged but relaxed.
I've meet with multiple people from the team. they asked iOS questions regarding design, performance paradigms etc. I had a few white board questions nothing out of the ordinary.
Navdy as a whole looks like a great place to be. the team seems very professional, engaged and excited to be there.
Overall one of the best places I've interviewed with.
