Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduate Scheme Interview

      21 Jan 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Coventry, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (Coventry, England) in Dec 2015

      Interview

Initially you go through all of the classical online tests and questions. You will be invited to an online video interview. It is the type with pre-recorded questions. You should have made a good research on the company, its financial report on the previous year and know about two or three important projects. Try to be natural and watch the camera, not yourself. The last stage is the AC. It is held in Coventry and it comprises face to face interview with 2 engineers, case study with presentation and group exercise. The interview is half competency based, half technical. The interviewers are friendly and try to see how you think. Do not overcomplicate your answers, be short and concise, read about relays. The competency based part is related to why the company and why you, as well as emphasising the safety aspect. Try to relate with past experience. The case study is given to you and one should make recommendations based on what is written there. Work fast and efficient and take notes. You can bring notes into the presentation. The group assessment is standard, as within other companies. Bring ideas, approve others' ideas and if you disagree with someone, do so, but in a polite and well structured way. I received offer in a week's time.
