I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Newsela (New York, NY) in Feb 2022
Interview
I was referred by a friend to apply for Newsela, and I applied for the Senior Software Engineer. After a week, I received an email from the Sr. Recruiter to schedule a call. During that call, we talked about my background and Salary Expectations.
I received a follow-up email saying that Newsela wanted to move forward with the interview process. The interview process was divided into four parts.
Meeting with Sr. Director of Engineering (Hiring Manager)
- I talked about myself and my resume
- Found out more about the team and the type of work we'd be working on
- I was asked some fundamental JS question
- Received a take-home exercise to complete in a week
Technical / Code Exercise Review
- Reviewed take-home exercise
- Talked about my previous work and that led to more technical questions.
- I was asked questions about accessibility, async /await, server-side, and cookies.
Meeting with Hiring Manager (Behavioral)
- Typical Behavioral questions
Meeting with Product Manager (Behavioral)
- Explained what the product manager did at the company and asked typical Behavioral questions
Overall it was a pleasant experience. Everything flowed, and it was more of a conversation.
