I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Austin, TX) in June 2012
Interview
I was referred to the internship opportunity by a friend whom works full time at the same office I was interviewing with. I was contacted by the recruiter and set up an interview. She was very friendly and laid back the whole time, we laughed most of the interview. After meeting with her, I met with the head manager of that office. He's a little more up tight and likes to get down to business.

Question 1
Gave common interview questions. Most difficult was probably "why do you think Northwestern Mutual is right for you?"
Straightforward process, interviewed with them on campus. They provided the information I needed. I decided to not move ahead with the interview process as it did not align with my goals, but the interviewers were cordial and professional.
Felt like they were selling me something the whole time. Super easy to talk to, but something just felt off the whole time. Had multiple phases of them explaining why they're so perfect and great to work for (massive selection bias in some of their numbers)
