      Web Marketing Interview

      30 Dec 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Okta (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2018

      Interview

Started off with a couple of phone screens, followed by an assignment which they loved, who then invited me on-site to present this assignment to their web team, and then meet 1:1 with each person on said web team. First off, I was pumped that this place wanted their candidates to present what they actually know because this is a great opportunity to showcase your knowledge and experience. The presentation went well and the 1:1's were nothing short of ordinary, kind of your usual "tell me about a time this happened or that happened." In the end, I felt like they completely wasted my time. I felt fully qualified, but my oh my everyone on the team were recent college graduates and the senior person (hiring manager) was mid-late 20s. I may not look like I fit in completely, but I still liked the job and gave it 100% effort. I got a canned rejection email not too long afterwards. Zero feedback. Here's my beef. Don't waste people's time if they have a lot of experience. I get it. Some companies for several reasons want someone who is more fresh out of college, but don't waste someone's time with a project and then have them present this project to an entire team. I also got this strange sense that they were trying to get free work out of their candidates because the assignment had something to do with making improvements to one of their partner sites. And the hiring manager only wanted to hire somebody she can buddy-up with. Turns out that this person she hired didn't last more than 6 months and they posted the position again. I didn't bother this time around.
