      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      15 Aug 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at OnDeck in June 2014

      Interview

Hiring process was pretty straight forward and simple. A phone call, talking about the position and assessing a fit and then a 3 hr onsite, with 4/5 interviews (45 mins) ranging from writing code to design discussion.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

None, most of the questions were pretty standard Java questions. I was just not prepared.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at OnDeck (Arlington, VA) in Feb 2019

      Interview

Interview process began with a preliminary phone screen. This was followed by an automated online skills test, and then an in-person interview with my future teammates, supervisor, and department director. Two of these segments consisted of technical questions -- one on algorithms and and another on design. The other sessions were Q&A conversations about my history, career and skills, and the company. Across the board, my interviewers were friendly, patient, intelligent, and knowledgeable. I enjoyed doing the onsite interview. Throughout the process, I had access to a company recruiter, who was also friendly and exceedingly helpful.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Given an array of daily stock prices for an interval of consecutive days, write an algorithm to return an array containing, for each element in the original array, the number of days in the future the first higher stock price occurs.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Design a database for logging requests and responses to and from an external API.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at OnDeck (New York, NY) in Apr 2015

      Interview

Their Recruiter reached out to me. Resume submitted and a phone screen with their architect scheduled. It was a coding test, was asked 3 simple coding questions, answered and was told that I will be called in for an in-person. The scheduling after that took a couple of weeks (reasons being their coordinator being on vacation to coordinator being backed up). In person interview scheduled for 3:15 PM, i promptly reach their office 10 mins in advance and then see this email from the recruiter/coordinator that there was a change and asking me if i could go in 30 mins late. I was already there and decided to just sit there, stare at their employees and read a magazine. Finally , was called in for my first interview with a team lead(different from the one i was scheduled to meet, 45 mins later). At that point, i didn't want to job for multiple reasons - too far from the train station and i already had a job. Interview was very basic..asked to search a for a number in a sorted array. Gave the algorithm but screwed (intentionally!) the java code part. Second set of interviewers asked me to code a "blocking queue". That is it, No offer. The inordinate delays and schedule changes, being far from the train station in Manhattan and having a job already in hand close to home were the reasons I wasn't interested. Note- the place looked cluttered, congested. Too many people sitting in too little space.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Search for a number in a sorted array (hint - binary search) Code a blocking queue and on the ph screen, basic 1) parentheses matcher (i used a stack) 2) check if a string is a palindrome
