      Software Engineer Interview

      18 June 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Cambridge, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Optibrium (Cambridge, England) in June 2022

      Interview

Wholely positive experience. Round 1: a 30-minute chat to see if I might be a good fit for the company. Really honest talk that helped me to prioritise what I was looking for in a job. Round 2: take-home assignment. Only a few hours in length in total. Wasn't unneccessarily difficult and was really well designed/gave me an insight into specific technologies used on the job. Reasonable challenge, but confirmed the job might be at the right level for me. Round 3: half hour discussion with director of software development followed by a challenging technical interview. Really enjoyed the questions being asked, and it was great to meet people I would directly be working with too. Technical was focussed on my solution to the take-home challenge. (as an aside, it was very appreciated that the final round was booked before they'd seen my submission. I though it showed a lot of respect for your time as a candidate!) I thought I'd missed the mark on this one, but had a call to say they'd like to work with me less than 24 hours after the final round! The whole process was efficient, smooth and well designed. Everyone I met was really nice, and I chose to accept an offer here compared to elsewhere because everything has been really smooth and the people I met were all fantastic.
