I interviewed at Optimal Dynamics (New York, NY) in Feb 2021

      Interview

I was first given a Hackerrank coding assessment, questions were moderate. Once I passed that, I got a call for a pair programming interview. Simple question but I made a simple error which I resolved in a few minutes. Interviewer was pretty happy, but a day after the interview I got a rejection. I emailed the interviewer asking for feedback and he replied saying that they had found a better suited candidate.

      Interview

There was no HR involved which was a red flag for me (all the interview process and communication was done by the team). After a part that took me more than 4 hours, they ghosted me for a month before remembering me.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Optimal Dynamics (Newyork, Argyll and Bute, Scotland) in May 2025

      Interview

The interview process started with a recruiter phone screen focused on my background and interest in logistics optimization. This was followed by a take-home technical assessment involving simulation, data analysis, and linear programming using Python — to be completed in 4 hours. After submitting, I was invited to a virtual technical round where I walked through my solution and answered follow-up questions about modeling, scalability, and algorithm choices. The final stage involved a behavioral interview with the engineering manager, focusing on teamwork, problem-solving under pressure, and past project experiences.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you simulate a logistics network using Python? Explain how you would optimize delivery routes for a fleet of trucks. What data structures would you use to model a transportation network? Given a dataset of shipments and delivery times, how would you analyze delays? How do you approach solving linear programming problems in Python? Describe a time you worked on a simulation or modeling project. What challenges do you foresee when building scalable logistics software? How would you handle real-time data streaming from GPS devices into your system?
