      Senior Manager Interview

      18 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Optum

      Interview

It was a consulting opportunity w travel. Process was sourcer reached out followed by Recruiter for the group. This was the worst group to interview ever. Process initially moved quick with first interview in 2 weeks but after that they went on and arranged for 2 more interviews with directors though they keep telling me each time it was the last. Then they said they are interested and want a final interview. That pushes out weeks and they go back and forth about trying to find somebody local, next recruiter says we want to fly you to our HQ what dates you have and then after another week passes they say we will interview locally can you go here as we sound somebody in this location. After the inperson I got a vague non offer which was we are interested but no suitable projects right now. That’s the dumbest thing ever ! Essentially they are stalling and in consulting they interview you as though you are a serious candidate to backfill or build their pipeline. Quite ridiculous and the worst process and a complete waste of time for a very senior position. Absolutely no respect for the candidates time through the process. Consulting firms are big on behavioral interviews which are stupid to begin with. Tell me about a time and usual dumb questions along these lines No two instances projects, companies ,situations, managers, circumstances are the same so what you did in .org 1 may not be what you may do in .org 2 or 3. Best to prepare your answers in advance though for such interviews.

      Senior Manager Interview

      17 Feb 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Optum

      Interview

I was so thrilled about interviewing with this company because of its reputation in the healthcare industry. I was referred by a former colleague, so I felt as though I had an excellent advantage. For the final interview, I was asked to prepare a case study to present to a panel, and I had up to 45 minutes to present. I spent days on this presentation, and I was so excited to present. During the Zoom interview, half the panel had their cameras off and the other half were VERY OBVIOUSLY working on other things. It was absolutely disheartening, but I pressed on and delivered an excellent presentation. I even received feedback from my former colleague that the presentation went well. I sent a thank you email to the hiring manager….no response. I sent a thank you email to the recruiter….no response. Then, I sent a request for feedback email to the hiring manager….no response. Then, I sent a request for feedback email to the recruiter….no response. I never even received a form rejection letter via email, and I saw that the job has been relisted after several months. I fully recognize that this incident was specific to this team and not the company because I have since interviewed for other departments within the company and have had a pleasant experience. But, if anyone from Optum is reading this, please remember that candidates are human beings. Some of us are unemployed due to unforeseen circumstances like the pandemic, and while I realize no one owes me anything, it would still be nice to experience some humanity. You, as hiring managers and recruiters, would expect the same level of human decency if you were interviewing, especially after spending 5 hours in interviews with a company.
