I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Oregon Health & Science University (Portland, OR) in June 2011
Interview
I had a chance to get in touch with my boss, who was also my postdoctoral advisor at a professional meeting. We had a brief chat there. Then I was invited over at OHSU to give a presentation of my doctoral research as an interview. It went very well.
The hiring process took a while because of all the background checks and to complete safety training to gain access. But I guess that is normal for many places. Mine took a little longer because I had to wait for me work permit to arrive.
