I applied on the Outreach website and two weeks later was contacted by email by the HR contact. She set up a phone interview where we chatted for 30 minutes. From there, she set me up with another 30 minute phone interview with the hiring manager. Both calls were very pleasant and asked pretty standard interview questions. Also during both calls I found out before hanging up that they wanted me to move forward to the next step. After the call with the hiring manager they set up a 30 minute online demo to demo a product or technology.
During my demo appointment I logged into Zoom where someone I had never met was on the line. Two more people joined the call and kind of introduced themselves. The first person on the line told me to go ahead and get started, that they weren't sure if the hiring manager would be joining. They all seemed pretty uninterested in the demo before I even started. I had allowed time for questions, assuming they may try to throw me off my game to see how I can handle customer interactions but they were mostly silent for the whole time and the demo ended 5 minutes early. I got an email 3 business days later saying they would not be moving forward.
The interview process would have been fine however I really felt dismissed by the employees for the demo. It felt very much like they had drawn the short end of the stick and now had to hear me talk for 30 minutes which was disappointing because I was extremely excited to be on the line with them. The hiring manager and HR contact were both incredibly nice and great to speak with. I was very disappointed to not get the position and I felt like in the demo I hadn't been set up to succeed.
