I was approached by an Overjet recruiter for a staff software engineering position on November 12, 2024. The initial call went well, followed by a positive interview with the hiring manager on November 22, 2024. Over the next few weeks, I went through multiple rounds of technical interviews with team members, including a final conversation. Throughout the process, I felt informed about the team, the product, and Overjet's culture.
However, after my references were checked and cleared, I was unexpectedly asked to undergo another technical interview on December 19, 2024, which I found highly unusual. Despite this, I remained positive and interested in the opportunity. On December 20, 2024, I discussed the salary package and benefits and was assured that I would receive an official offer letter the following day. Instead, I received a rejection with a note stating that a new head of engineering would be joining in January, and the position would be revisited next year.
If there was a plan to hire a new head of engineering, this could have been communicated earlier. It felt like a waste of time for both parties. While the engineering team was excellent, I believe the upper management lacked clarity and professionalism in their hiring process.
Cool company in industry I haven’t considered before (dental practice AI/software). People seemed smart and to enjoy what they do. Fast process, reasonable questions - I got to ask a lot too. Good experience

Interview
I recently interviewed with Overjet, and overall, the experience was positive. The team appeared promising and well-versed in their field. The interview process was efficient, consisting of 5-6 rounds, but it took a bit longer for them to determine the right fit. Unfortunately, the process did not conclude with an offer.
