I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Owl Labs in Dec 2020
Interview
Several video interviews with team leads and team members for cultural fit and 2 technical interviews. One of the technicals involves being left with a problem for some time and then returning to talk about it, while the other is an in depth discussion of past experiences and then a traditional live coding interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The first interview question is very simple, but is customized to be specific to the kind of work they do at Owl. The second technical question is much more like a traditional brain teaser you would find on LeetCode.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Owl Labs (Boston, MA) in Nov 2020
Interview
I could not speak more highly of my interview experience at Owl, especially compared to other companies. They invest in every candidate and exude warmth. Especially as a company focused on remote work, interacting with them during the pandemic (which also applies to the remote first portions of regular interviews before the on-site) was everything it should be.
The interview process involves both behavioral and technical portions. The behavioral portions allow you to talk to many people throughout the company that you would be working with if you were to get an offer and accept it, and this ended up being crucial to my decision and how excited I was to join Owl!
Overall, it is pretty easy to tell whether you are a fit for the company because all of the people who work at Owl exemplify their values, in my opinion:
- Recruiters got back to me quickly, especially when the update was that they needed more time, and I was never left hanging.
- Engineers are very excited to talk about the product, work pipelines, etc.
- All employees are empathetic to different working environments and very invested in the company's success and growth
As a result, if you are interested in the product, industry, and culture, it will be immediately obvious to you and reinforced throughout. Conversely, if you're not into it, you and the company will be able to tell and the process will be transparent and efficient!
For me, all this snowballed my excitement and was why I chose Owl over other offers. I didn't know working and interviewing could be like this. Again, this is probably clear, but I was very surprised and pleased with my experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Behavioral interview questions about work style, previous projects, interests, etc. The behavioral interviews seemed to be specific to my experience so my guess would be that this changes for every candidate depending on what Owl and the candidate are each looking for at the time,
Technical interview included coding portions on questions relevant to the work Owl does and a discussion afterwards.
