      Volunteer Coordinator Interview

      14 Jan 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melbourne
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Oxfam (Melbourne)

      Interview

Completed selection criteria, applied through their website. On the website it asked you to specify when you would be able to start by. I had a contract ending 6 weeks later, so entered that date. I also mentioned my availability in my cover letter. Was contacted for an interview. In interview it became clear that the role was much less volunteer management but data management, without a whole lot of face to face contact, which differed significantly to what was specified in the original ad. Also, the interviewers asked if I would be ready to start the next week, and of course, I wasn't available for another 6 weeks. They acted as if this was news to them so I referred them to my application where I had mentioned my availability twice. Not once was it mentioned in the application process that they essentially needed someone immediately, which, for such a position is an unrealistic demand. They essentially ended the interview then by saying 'oh well, we have several highly skilled internal candidates also going for this position...soooo...'.
