      Interview

Fair yet challenging. If you're ready for the role it won't be an issue. Very positive experience when compared to other interviews I have had. Interviewer created a calm environment and was very friendly.

      Research Manager Interview

      Application

The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at P\S\L Group (Montreal, QC) in Oct 2011

      Interview

Initially, I received a phone interview with the Research Director. Although most phone interviews tend to be short and sweet for the sake of screening, this one was quite elaborate and lasted almost an hour. At the end of the interview, he said he would email me an "assignment" that I am to return by the end of the weekend. This was essentially a sample of a project I would normally do on the job, which I found to be a good idea. A week later, I was called for an in-person interview, which was rescheduled three twice. When I finally went in, I met first with the Research Director (whom I had already spoken to on the phone) for approximately an hour, followed by the President of the company. I spoke to each of them for an hour, and it definitely felt like a "good cop - bad cop" routine, with the Research Director being the good cop, obviously. Simply put, the RD asked me behavioral questions and was extremely relaxed; the President asked me much more pointed questions related to the job and my experience, and kept grilling me with specific technical questions. Nothing out of the ordinary or unfair though. After the interview, which was on a Tuesday, I asked the President when I should expect to hear back from them. He told me by the end of that week and gave me a good vibe. However, the end of the week came - nothing. The following week came and passed - still nothing. After the process had been 10 days overdue, I sent an email to the HR person asking them to fill me in on the delay. She was less than useless, and did not respond at all. I called her two days later, and she did not answer. I called her four days later - fully 2 weeks since I was supposed to get a decision - and she finally picked up. She said my email was in her "junk mail" (how convenient, how professional!) and that she would contact the RD to find out what's going on. Two more days pass by, not a peep from her or him. I call her again and she apologizes for being MIA, then tells me he should contact me "shortly". One more week passes by (can you believe this?) and he finally calls me to tell me that they gave it to someone else. How thoughtful.
