      Localisation Project Manager Interview

      1 Nov 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Papercup.AI (London, England) in Oct 2023

      Interview

I firstly had two brief introductory calls with the recruiter, then the 1st interview with the head of service delivery. Both very pleasant and quite informal, with friendly people that introduced the company and what they do very clearly, nothing at all to fault on that respect. The feedback I received after the two calls and the interview was however very confusing and inconsistent: 1) After the first call with the recruiter, I was told that there were candidates whose skills were a closer match to their needs, but that however they appreciated my passion for Papercup and their mission - fair enough; I actually truly appreciated their time to provide some individual feedback; 2) I then had a second call with the recruiter again as the job post was re-opened, so kept showing my ongoing interested in the role, after which I was explained that the reason why they did not go ahead with me previously was now my lack of passion for Papercup instead (something they originally instead appreciated, following the 1st call's feedback), but that they were nevertheless happy to put me forward for the 1st interview stage - in all honesty, here I started to get a bit confused but was happy of the outcome overall; 3) Had the 1st interview, after which I was told that they would have not proceeded with my application further as there were other candidates whose skills were a closer match to their needs, again, such as previous experience in a startup environment, something that was not even minimally mentioned in the job post whatsoever but that I guess made sense and was acceptable - though here I just got very confused once more. While this type of interview experience has been incredibly valuable regardless of the outcome, my only advice to recruitment is that if they really care to provide some individual feedback to candidates, which hopefully is greatly appreciated as not all companies take the time to do it, then this should be clearer, more honest and most importantly consistent.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Overall, in all three calls I had I was asked to: - briefly talk about my background and experience - what a typical day looks like in my current role - if we have a tech team in my current role or if our job is very much more manual - if our project procedures and processes allow for improvement - if I am used to engaging with freelancers directly - if I knew Papercup before applying, what I thought of the company and what interested me in the role - to describe what time of person I am within a team - what I consider to be a complex project - my notice period as well as if I am happy with their hybrid work pattern.
